Step into a world of warmth and musical intimacy as jazz vocalist Liz Townsend graces the Clover Room for her final performance in Kalamazoo before she moves to Denton, TX to pursue her doctorate.
Liz will be supported by the distinguished faculty rhythm section from Western Michigan University including Matthew Fries on keys, Carlo De Rosa on bass, and Keith Hall on drums.

Bio: Liz Townsend is an accomplished vocalist, educator, arranger, and clinician. She is the professor of jazz voice at Kalamazoo College and is on voice faculty at Southwestern Michigan College. She served as the director of Gold Company II at Western Michigan University for three years where she also served as the interim professor of jazz voice. Her musical journey reached a milestone with the release of her debut album, Along the Way showcasing a blend of original music and her unique arrangements of beloved jazz standards. Last year, she presented on vocal jazz at the Michigan Music Conference and has been invited as a guest clinician to work with college and high school choirs across the country. Her arrangements have been performed by world-renown vocal jazz groups and have been featured on several music-reading sessions. Liz holds a masters degree in Jazz Voice Performance from WMU where she studied with Greg Jasperse. She also earned a bachelors degree from WMU in Choral Music Education during which time she studied classical voice with Dr. Rhea Olivaccé. She has additional training through Maddie Tarbox’s Vocal Function 101 and Estill Voice Training and has completed all three levels of Somatic Voicework™ - The LoVetri Method. She will continue her studies this coming fall as she pursues her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Jazz Voice at the University of North Texas.
