The Bahar Ensemble is a five-member group giving regular public performances of a growing repertoire that spans centuries and originates from Arabic, Kurdish, Turkish, Persian, North African, Andalusian, and related traditions. Members include founder and violinist Ahmed Tofiq, Dr. Beau Bothwell (oud), Liz Youker (cello), Dede Alder and Carolyn Koebel (percussion). The ensemble originated in 2017 on the campus of Western Michigan University when Ahmed came to the United States from the Kurdistan region of Iraq to pursue a master's degree in violin performance.
